Dear Family and Friends,
This week was definitely interesting. And it was also a week of
transfer calls! There are so many changes going on! First off, our
zone leader has been called as an assistant to the president so he's a
goner, also there are three assistants to the president now although
one will be acting as a trainer because this is his last transfer
here. Our district leader got called to be a zone leader in the
Naperville stake so he is a goner as well. We will find out who our
replacements are this week I think. Also, our Ward is experiencing
some changes as well. The elders are staying so that's nothing new,
Hermana Jacobsen is being transferred to Elgin, which is still in our
zone, and Hermana Lewis is receiving a new companion from Schaumburg,
which is also still in our zone, and my companion and I, well, I get
to finish out my last six weeks of training with her! We are together
for yet another transfer and this transfer we will be baptizing! We
are so blessed to be able to stay together and keep the progress we
have been making going! Wow! Changes galore!
My memory seems to be deteriorating while I am out in the field
because we had invited someone to be baptized and I didn't remember
it! That's pretty important, no? Well, I have decided that I need to
have a planner so I can write down the things that we did every day so
I can remember and be more efficient. And what else... Oh! We had a
new investigator come to church yesterday! Her name is Neela and she
is a daughter of an investigator. She is ten years old and she was the
one who got her mom to come to church with her! She is such an example
and I know that her family is going to be blessed because of
everything that she is willing to do. We have also put one of our
other investigators on date for October 25th and we are super excited
for that! We know it will change and bless his life! We have also been
receiving many referrals. We are working on building up our members so
we can have member referrals but right now we are taking everything we
can get.
This week we had a general authority come and talk to us while he was
doing a mission tour. His name was Elder Gay and I learned so much!
Especially about goal setting. Goal setting is something that we do
all day every day in the mission field and it is so important to set
goals according to the revelation and inspiration we receive from the
Holy Ghost. He helped us better understand how we can do that in our
individual areas and he promised special blessings as we changed and
evolved to serve and set goals how the lord would have us do it. It
was really special.
Yesterday the ward also had like a ward dinner right after church. I
didn't know that we could do that! The food was delicious and was a
well needed blessing, seeing that we are poor missionaries and we make
college kids look like billionaires. I am learning a lot more Spanish
and so now I am able to pay attention to the things being taught in
church! Whoo hoo! I also play the piano for the primary. For any of
you who know the extent of my piano skills, you know that the primary
is desperate. This week in Ward council we got a lot of support, the
Ward wants to have a bigger push on missionary work especially part
member families. I love the energy they have for sharing the gospel.
It really helps build my energy and help increase my desire to go out
and find! Finding is really fun, don't get me wrong, but sometimes it
can take a toll. Having people who aren't interested slam the door in
your face or listen to your message and then at they are not
interested can really bring you down. But as I have been learning, we
are to spread the gospel with as many people as we can and teach with
as much power as we can. They have their agency and can choose
whatever they want but we offer. As I have kept that in mind, I have
been happier during knocking hours, which there are a lot of, and we
have found people who have truly been prepared by the lord. I know he
hears and answers our prayers and as we humble ourselves and ask for
the things that we need, he will bless us with them. I know that as we
pray for missionary opportunities and for his help in finding them, he
will qualify us, missionaries and members, for the work.
Okay, Tuesday was probably the funniest day of my whole entire
mission, even funnier than when my companion fell and biffed it on the
sidewalk on her bike. So number one, we were following up with an old
investigator to see if she still had interest in learning. Before she
had answered the door we had seen her little boy, about two or three
years old, in the window and we made faces at him as we do with all
other children. Well, the lady opened her door and her son was
standing behind her and off the the side a little bit and all of a
sudden we see that he is pouring water on the ground and it is
splashing everywhere. At least that is what we thought. We looked to
see what it was, and well, the little boy was peeing. Right there on
the patio. Splashing his pee on my companion!! It was so funny, it was
so hard to compose myself. The mom was a little bit embarrassed and
all I could think of is what my mom would have done if my brothers had
done that. A big SMACK to the back of the head is what it would be!
After that we walked to our car and we were laughing about what had
happened when a man came and knocked at our window. We, being women,
locked the doors and rolled A window down to talk to this weird man.
We could tell that he was a little amped and we had hoped that he
wasn't drunk or any thing of the sort. He wasn't, he did however think
that we were Jehovah's witnesses and he was coming over to tell, us to
leave his neighborhood. But we explained that we were missionaries and
that we shared a message of Jesus Christ and how his teachings in the
Book of Mormon can bless our lives. He agreed to meet with us sometime
and as he was walking away, he said to my companion, I know you're a
princess of God. My companion quickly shut that one down by saying,
"okay, have a nice day. Bye!" And rolling up the window at the same
time. We met with him but we had fears that he didn't want to hear
about the gospel, only to get to know two pretty young ladies. So we
met him with mama Martinez who is one of our members and also a Ward
missionary. She also happens to be Puerto Rican and really scary, just
like my momma. She was perfect! We also met with the man at a Burger
King just to see if he was interested. We had a really good lesson
with him and we were able to see what his beliefs were but he was only
interested in hanging out. We told him our purpose and referred him to
the English elders and we hope that he does read the Book of Mormon we
gave him. I know when he does, he will have a desire to be baptized
and eventually be sealed to his family for all of time and eternity.
Well. I think I covered everything from this week. Thank you so much
for your prayers, thoughts and letters! Thank you all for the support
you have given me and my family! I love you and wish you the best
week! This week I would as all of you to study in 3 Nephi 18 & 27 and
see why the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is so
important and why the gospel of Jesus Christ is central to our
message. I love you all! Have a great week!
